The Edo State Police Command has commenced the process of establishing the Edo State Community Safety Partnership, a strategic initiative aimed at boosting security through collaboration with critical stakeholders.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, unveiled the plan during a meeting with hoteliers and stakeholders in the hospitality sector on Friday at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy, Benin City.
In a statement made available to Uptown Press Nigeria by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the initiative is designed to provide a platform for community policing, monthly reviews of security concerns, and the creation of committees to tackle them.
Friday’s session was the first in a series of consultative engagements. Other sectors will meet with the Police Command in the coming days, including industries and companies (30th August), religious institutions (1st September), traditional rulers and youth leaders (3rd September), farmers and herders (5th September), schools and universities (6th September), financial institutions (8th September), transport unions and labour bodies (10th September), and civil society organisations (12th September).
Addressing participants, CP Agbonika stressed the critical role of the hospitality industry in crime prevention and intelligence gathering.
“Technology alone cannot win the fight against crime,” he said. “Drones and gadgets are useful, but they cannot replace the vigilance and cooperation of hoteliers and hospitality providers who are often the first point of contact for visitors and strangers.”
He assured the hospitality sector of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding businesses and creating a secure environment for residents and visitors alike.
At the close of the meeting, both the Police Command and the hospitality industry pledged to deepen cooperation and support the rollout of the Community Safety Partnership.
The Police Command called on all stakeholders and members of the public to join hands in building safer communities across Edo State.
