Edo Police Raid Hotel, Nab Suspected Kidnapper With $1,500, ₦897,500

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper, identified as Sunday Irabor, during a raid on a hotel near Oluku Market in Benin City.

The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Ekiadolor Division at about 1pm on September 8, 2026, following actionable intelligence on his alleged involvement in kidnapping activities.

The Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the arrest, saying operatives conducted a search during the operation and recovered several items from the suspect.

Recovered items included multiple mobile phones, a Samsung tablet, a Cartier wristwatch, ₦897,500 in cash and $1,500 in 15 $100 bills, among other valuables.

“Following actionable intelligence, operatives of Ekiadolor Division arrested a suspected kidnapper, Sunday Irabor, at a hotel near Oluku Market, Benin City,” Ikoedem said.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspect has been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for further investigation into his alleged involvement in kidnapping activities.

The Edo Police Command said the investigation would establish the suspect’s possible links to kidnapping operations and other related criminal activities.

The arrest comes as security operatives in the state intensify intelligence-led operations against kidnapping and other violent crimes across Edo.
