The Ogun State Police Command has smashed an alleged baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects, including a nurse.
The operation, conducted on Monday, August 24, 2026, followed intelligence gathering by operatives of the command, according to the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Emmanuel Opeyemi.
The two rescued pregnant women were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who is seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who is eight months pregnant.
Police said the operation did not end at the suspected facility, as further intelligence-led follow-up led investigators to a hospital within the Mowe axis.
At the hospital, operatives discovered that a woman identified as Blessing Bright Effiong had recently given birth to a baby boy. However, the newborn could not be accounted for, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse.
The police subsequently transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for an expanded investigation and efforts to locate the missing newborn.
The command said the investigation is ongoing as detectives work to unravel the activities of the suspected baby factory and establish the whereabouts of the missing child.
The operation underscores the police command’s renewed efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in the exploitation of vulnerable women and children in the state.
