The Nigerian side will face Ghana’s Ampem FC on October 29 as they battle to secure a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Edo Queens Football Club have accepted the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) directing them to complete the outstanding extra time of their WAFU-B final against Ghanaian side Ampem FC on October 29, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.
The club’s position was contained in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Media Manager, Ehiosun Ogieva.
According to the statement, although the outcome of the appeal was not what the club had hoped for, the management decided to comply with CAF’s directive following consultations with the club’s Board, the Edo State Government and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The club said its decision was guided by the need to uphold sporting fairness and ensure that the contest is settled on the pitch.
Edo Queens are scheduled to depart for Cairo on Monday, October 26, ahead of the decisive encounter.
The club expressed appreciation to the Edo State Government and the NFF for their support, guidance and representation throughout the appeal process.
“Our mission remains unchanged: to fight, to win and to secure our place in the CAF Women’s Champions League,” the statement said.
The club also acknowledged the disappointment among its supporters but stressed that it shared their determination to see the dispute resolved through football.
“We have chosen to move forward with courage, discipline and resilience,” it added.
Edo Queens further thanked their fans and members of the media for their support during the appeal process, urging supporters to continue backing the team ahead of the crucial fixture.
The statement noted that the players and technical crew remained focused and ready to represent Edo State and Nigeria with pride.
The dispute followed the WAFU-B final played in Burkina Faso on September 5, 2026, which ended 2-2 after 90 minutes of regulation time. Edo Queens subsequently defeated Ampem FC 4-1 in the penalty shootout and were declared winners.
However, Ampem FC lodged a protest, arguing that the match should have proceeded to 30 minutes of extra time before penalties, in accordance with the applicable competition rules.
CAF’s disciplinary and appeal bodies subsequently considered the matter and ruled in favour of the Ghanaian club, leading to the directive for the outstanding extra time to be played.
The rescheduled encounter in Cairo will now determine the outcome of the WAFU-B final, with both teams seeking to secure their place in the CAF Women’s Champions League, which is scheduled to begin in Cairo on November 1, 2026.
