As preparations for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage gather momentum, the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has introduced an instalment-based payment option for intending pilgrims. This move aims to make the pilgrimage more accessible to a wider range of people across the state.
During a sensitisation event held at the Board’s office in Benin City, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Eranga AbdulKabir MuhammadKabir, outlined the new payment plan. He confirmed that intending pilgrims can now pay the Hajj fare in instalments, with amounts ranging from ₦1 million to ₦8.4 million. This flexible approach is part of the Board’s efforts to alleviate the financial burden of the pilgrimage for those in Edo State.
“The payment process has officially commenced, and we are keen to ensure it is as seamless as possible for all pilgrims,” said Alhaji AbdulKabir. “The full payment of ₦8.4 million is required, with a deadline set for 31st January 2025. We believe this plan will ease the financial load on our pilgrims and help facilitate a smooth journey for all.”
The announcement was made during the sensitisation programme, which took place on 1st Rajab 1446AH, corresponding to 1st January 2025, at the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board’s office. The Executive Secretary also reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to providing full support to intending pilgrims, assuring them of a well-organised and efficient Hajj experience.
Additionally, Alhaji AbdulKabir addressed the issue of unpaid refunds from the 2023 Hajj pilgrimage. He urged Edo State pilgrims who have not yet received compensation for services not rendered to submit their account details for prompt processing.
The event was attended by prominent Islamic leaders, including Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Igbinedu, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Edo State, as well as a large gathering of intending pilgrims from the Edo South Senatorial District.
With the payment plan now in place, the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board is confident that more residents will be able to fulfil their religious obligations in 2025, despite the financial challenges.
