Betty Enekpen Otimenyin has been confirmed as the new Commissioner of Police for Edo State, following the approval of her appointment by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday, 16th January 2025.
She is set to succeed the current Commissioner, CP Peter Umoru, who is scheduled to retire on 25th January 2025.
In a statement issued by the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, it was revealed that CP Otimenyin’s distinguished career in the police force spans several states and roles. She began her service in Bauchi State and has since held significant positions in various states, including as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Plateau and Edo States. Otimenyin has also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police Administration in Kebbi State and at the Nigeria Port Authority in Lagos.
Her leadership experience extends to roles as Area Commander in Eleme, Rivers State, and Mbaitoli, Imo State. Most recently, she was serving as Commissioner of Police Administration at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja.
In his remarks, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), Chairman of the PSC, urged CP Otimenyin to remain committed to her service in Edo State. He assured her that the Commission would provide the necessary support to ensure her success, while also closely monitoring her progress in the role.
The appointment has been officially communicated to the Inspector General of Police through a letter signed by the PSC’s Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
