Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Monday, officially swore in the new Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), alongside six Commissioners and various Board Chairmen.
The event, which took place at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Edo State, also saw the swearing-in of officials for key state bodies, including the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), and the State Secondary Education Board (SSEB).
Governor Okpebholo used the occasion to urge the newly appointed officials to prioritise the development of Edo State, emphasising his administration’s commitment to rapid progress and good governance. “We are in a hurry to bring about development,” he stated, stressing the importance of teamwork, efficiency, and dedication in fulfilling the promises made to the people of the state.
In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo highlighted the qualities of the newly sworn-in officials, praising their capacity and commitment to the state’s growth. He urged them to work with a shared sense of purpose and focus on delivering quality service to Edo citizens.
“You have been chosen because of your skills and the trust we have in your ability to contribute meaningfully to the development of our state,” he said. “This is not just an honour, but a call to serve with integrity and excellence.”
The new Chairman of SUBEB is Onomen Goodness Briggs, while the six new Commissioners are Sir Lucky Eseigbe, Hon. Paul Nosayaba Ohonbamu, Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, Hon. Dr. Washington Osa Osifo, Mr. Andrew Ijegbai, and Barr. Marie Olabisi Idaomi. The specific portfolios for the Commissioners will be announced shortly.
In addition to the SUBEB leadership, other key appointments include Jonathan Aifuobhokhan as Chairman of EDSIEC, Francis Osaretin Osabuohien as Chairman of EDSOGPADEC, and Omozane Ebanehita Sonia as Chairman of SSEB.
Speaking on behalf of the newly appointed officials, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu expressed gratitude to Governor Okpebholo for the opportunity to serve. He assured the Governor of their unwavering commitment to ensuring practical governance that would benefit the people of Edo State.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor; Chief of Staff Gani Audu; Attorney General Barr. Samson Osagie; former Deputy Governor Comrade Phillip Shaibu; and other top government officials and party leaders.
Governor Okpebholo’s call for efficiency and dedication is expected to bolster his administration’s efforts in achieving its developmental goals for the state.
