The Edo State government, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, has announced the recruitment of 500 new teachers as part of efforts to bolster the State’s education sector.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, revealed the initiative on Tuesday in Benin City during his first official address at the Ministry of Education. He described the recruitment exercise as a phased programme aimed at addressing staffing gaps in public schools across the State.
Dr Iyamu emphasised that the process would be strictly merit-based and transparent, encouraging qualified candidates to apply through the government’s official website. He also cautioned against fraudulent activities, reiterating that the application process is free of charge.
“The Governor has fulfilled his promise by approving the recruitment of 500 teachers into the education sector,” Dr Iyamu stated. “This is the first tranche of the recruitment process, which demonstrates our commitment to ensuring every child in Edo State receives a quality education.”
The Commissioner highlighted that the recruitment aligns with Governor Okpebholo’s broader campaign promise to prioritise education and create sustainable jobs for Edo residents. Dr Iyamu also thanked the Governor for his dedication to improving the State’s educational infrastructure and the overall welfare of its citizens.
“We appreciate Mr Governor for his unwavering support for education and his commitment to the future of our children. This initiative marks the beginning of a new era for education in Edo State,” he added.
