Edo State University Uzairue Celebrates Academic Excellence with Scholarships for 24 Indigent Students

Edo State University Uzairue reaffirmed its commitment to education and community development by awarding scholarships to 24 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.

At an event held on December 12, 2024, in the University Senate Chambers, four students received full scholarships, while 20 others were granted indigent scholarships to cover tuition fees.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dawood Egbefo, highlighted the universityโ€™s dedication to nurturing academic excellence and fostering leadership skills. He described the scholarships as a dual opportunity to support deserving students and uphold the institutionโ€™s social responsibility to its host community.

Prof. Egbefo encouraged recipients to maintain stellar academic records, assuring them of the institution’s continued support through departmental monitoring.

โ€œWe want you to excel academically and develop into future leaders who will make significant contributions to society,โ€ he said. Prof. Egbefo also praised the universityโ€™s founder, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and its current visitor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for their roles in championing education and sustainable development in Edo State.

Registrar of the university, Mr. Habib Ekhalefo, commended the Edo State Government for initiating the Indigent Students Scholarship Award (ISSA), which has provided financial assistance to many underprivileged children. He urged more families to take advantage of the on-going programme, which covers tuition for most courses, excluding Medicine, Nursing, Law, and other specialised fields.

Ekhalefo explained the rigorous screening process used to identify the most deserving candidates for the scholarships. He noted that the programme aligns with the governmentโ€™s vision to empower Edo State indigenes through education, ensuring a brighter future for upcoming generations.

Grateful scholarship recipients expressed their thanks to the university management and Governor Monday Okpebholo for enabling them to pursue higher education. They pledged to excel in their studies and represent Edo State University Uzairue with pride.
