Hon. Kelvin Eguakun, Chairman of Egor Local Government Area, has held a crucial meeting with a group of revenue collectors from his jurisdiction. The meeting, which aimed to strengthen collaboration and boost the operational efficiency of the Council, saw the Chairman deliver an inspiring message to the attendees, reaffirming their central role in the local governance structure.
“You are the engine room of the Council,” Chairman Eguakun told the revenue officers, emphasising their indispensable role in driving the financial success of the local government. He reassured them that the two months of outstanding payments owed to them would be settled, pledging that efforts would be made to ensure timely disbursements moving forward.
Joined by key officials including the Secretary of the Council, Hon. Dr. Zion Evbuomwan; Director of Revenue, Hon. Agbons Unique; and the Finance Director, the Chairman addressed the practical challenges faced by revenue collectors.
In particular, he acknowledged the need for reliable communication tools and committed to replacing or repairing faulty phones used by the collectors for generating payment codes. This move is expected to streamline the revenue collection process and enhance efficiency in service delivery.
The meeting also featured a productive Q&A session, where several revenue collectors raised concerns about enforcement challenges, stressing that without adequate enforcement mechanisms, effective revenue generation would remain a daunting task.
In response, Chairman Eguakun assured the team that a formidable enforcement squad would be put in place in the coming days. Furthermore, he revealed plans to establish a mobile court to ensure prompt legal action against defaulters.
“You don’t have to worry. Enforcement will be operational soon, and we will ensure a mobile court is set up to handle cases swiftly,” the Chairman declared, further solidifying his commitment to improving the Council’s revenue generation efforts.
Concluding his address, Chairman Eguakun reassured the collectors, saying, “You are all covered,” affirming that the local government stands firmly behind them in their essential work.
