Residents of Evbotubu in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State turned out en masse on Wednesday to benefit from a comprehensive free medical outreach facilitated by Senator Neda Imasuen, in a move aimed at boosting public health and combating substance abuse across Edo South.
The outreach, held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Evbotubu Primary Health Centre, was organised in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research, drawing large crowds of beneficiaries eager to access essential healthcare services.
Residents received free medical screening and treatment for a range of conditions, including blood sugar level checks, blood pressure monitoring, malaria screening, and eye examinations, among others.
With the theme, “Building Awareness Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse,” the initiative combined healthcare delivery with sensitisation efforts, highlighting the dangers associated with substance abuse and its far-reaching impact on individuals and communities.
Delivering a lecture during the programme, Consultant Psychiatrist at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Dr Bartholomew Ighadosa, warned of the severe consequences of drug and alcohol abuse, particularly its damaging effects on the human brain and overall health.
Dr Osaigbovo Eriamiantor reinforced the message, urging residents to steer clear of substance abuse and prioritise their wellbeing.
The outreach witnessed impressive attendance, with beneficiaries commending Senator Imasuen for the intervention, noting that the initiative had significantly improved their access to healthcare and enhanced their overall wellbeing.
