Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has exceeded expectations within his first 100 days in office, according to former Egor Local Government Chairman, Hon. Crosby Osadolor Eribo, calling on all sons and daughters of the State to support the governor. In an exclusive interview with Uptown Press NG on Tuesday, Eribo commended the governor’s early strides in governance, highlighting key achievements across various sectors.
Reflecting on Okpebholo’s transition from the legislative to the executive arm, Eribo expressed his initial scepticism but admitted the governor had proven his critics wrong. “Never judge a book by its cover,” he remarked. “People doubted his political acumen, but he has demonstrated a firm grasp of governance.”
One of Okpebholo’s significant early moves has been the revitalisation of Edo Line Transport Company. Eribo noted that this was more than just purchasing vehicles but a strategic economic decision aimed at generating revenue for the state. “He has business sense. He is planning for the future, not just making short-term investments,” he stated.
In the area of infrastructure, the governor has prioritised road construction and environmental improvements.
“Roads that were long neglected are now receiving attention. New equipment has been acquired for waste management, showing his commitment to a cleaner Edo,” Eribo added.
Despite the absence of a formal handover from the previous administration, Okpebholo has hit the ground running, relying on his advisers and practical decision-making to drive development. “Some might say he is working blindly, but that is not the case. He has a clear vision,” he asserted.
Eribo also praised the governor’s inclusive approach, which has seen him incorporate individuals from different political backgrounds into his administration. “Rather than alienating people, he has embraced members of the opposition, creating a united and effective government,” he said.
On governance priorities, he encouraged Okpebholo to maintain focus on infrastructure, health, agriculture, and education. The governor has already made strides in education, overseeing the renovation of 100 schools within his first three months. “He’s moving beyond ‘EdoBest’ to ‘EdoBetter’,” Eribo quipped.
Commenting on the recent suspension of the Attorney General, Eribo refrained from making definitive statements but suggested it may have been a hasty decision by the Secretary to the State Government. “Every organisation needs discipline, and Governor Okpebholo is not one to entertain illegality,” he said, adding that any internal party issues would be resolved amicably.
Regarding his own political aspirations, Eribo remained coy about seeking an appointment in the administration. “The government is still settling in, and activities will soon pick up. If given an opportunity to serve, I will gladly accept,” he stated.
