Former President Goodluck Jonathan inaugurated the renovated Edo State Civil Service Secretariat Complex on Wednesday, a project spearheaded by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
During the event, Governor Obaseki emphasized his administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of civil servants by providing a conducive work environment.
The inauguration took place at the Secretariat complex located on Sapele Road, Benin City. In addition to the inauguration, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR laid the foundation stones for a 1500-capacity auditorium and a creche building within the complex.
The ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Governor Obaseki and the First Lady of Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki; Deputy Governor Engr. Marvellous Godwins Omobayo and his wife; Chief Judge Justice Daniel Okungbowa; PDP governorship candidate Dr. Asue Ighodalo and his wife; Deputy Governorship candidate and Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq.; and the Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa.
Other notable attendees included former Deputy Governor and Chief of Staff to Jonathan, Mike Ogiadhome; Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku; and several state officials and religious leaders.
Commending the new complex, Jonathan remarked that the buildings are among the best in Nigeria and praised Governor Obaseki for realizing the vision initiated by the late Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia, the then governor of Bendel State.
He encouraged other governors to follow Obaseki’s example by investing in the public and civil service and recruiting top graduates through automatic employment.
“I join the civil servants in thanking you for your visionary leadership and efforts to improve their welfare,” Jonathan stated.
Continuing, Jonathan said: “I have to thank you(Governor Obaseki) for the completion of this project and the renovations of the dilapidated ones. It takes somebody who wants to give the best to his people to do this kind of job. This shows that it is somebody who has a vision that can provide this.
