Former Vice President of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), signalling what many believe could be a significant political realignment in Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sambo, who served as Vice President under President Goodluck Jonathan from 2010 to 2015, reportedly completed the defection through the Kaduna State chapter of the APC. Though no public declaration has yet been made by the former Vice President himself, the move was confirmed on Wednesday by APC member, Imran Muhammad, via a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
The development has ignited reactions across the political spectrum, particularly within the PDP in the North-West, where Sambo had been a key figure. Political analysts suggest that his defection may influence the balance of power within Kaduna and possibly across northern Nigeria, as parties begin to strategise ahead of the next electoral cycle.
