The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, October 1, a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday, September 28, by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government. In his message, the minister extended his congratulations to Nigerians both at home and abroad, commending the citizens for their resilience and hard work over the years.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of reflecting on the efforts of the country’s founding fathers and heroes, encouraging citizens to be inspired by their legacy. He called on Nigerians to unite in their commitment to building the nation of their dreams.
“Aligning himself with the theme for the Anniversary, the Minister reiterated the need for Nigerians to reflect on the labour of our heroes past and be inspired for the tasks ahead, realizing that a Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite,” the statement read.
The minister also urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their efforts toward nation-building
