The immediate past governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has demanded that a Civil Society Organization (CSO) provide evidence to support their claim that his administration secured a N10 billion loan for the installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the Kano metropolis.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by Muhammad Garba, the Commissioner for Information during Ganduje’s administration, it was explained that a Federal High Court had, in 2022, restrained the government from acquiring the mentioned loan.
Ganduje dismissed the reports attributed to a “non-existent” civil society organization called the Coalition of Political Analysis Forum and Governance, labeling them as misleading and false.
Garba clarified that these organizations aimed to discredit the former governor by demanding an investigation into the alleged mismanagement of the funds meant for the CCTV project.
Garba stated, “To further confirm that they are fake, the so-called organization knew nothing about the project, and the hastiness with which their paymasters want them to be in the media exposes clearly, their intent.”
The former governor challenged the CSO to present concrete evidence of the N10 billion loan. He reiterated that the State Executive Council and the Assembly had formally granted approval for the project, acknowledging its importance in enhancing security in the state.
However, the plans were halted when a Federal High Court in Kano issued an injunction on July 1, 2022, preventing the government from proceeding with the loan.
