The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken into custody an individual who was found using both foreign and Nigerian number plates on a single vehicle.
This apprehension is part of the ongoing nationwide crackdown on vehicles that are either unstable, unregistered, or improperly registered.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, ACM Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, highlighted that this operation is a response to public concerns regarding the security risks linked to the blatant violation of road traffic regulations by certain motorists.
Some drivers have been observed using a combination of foreign and Nigerian number plates on their vehicles.
The FRSC patrol team effectively arrested one such offender who was employing two distinct number plates, BBJ746AA and CV51UMC, on a Volkswagen Golf 3 car.
This apprehension occurred within the Idu operational zone of the corps situated in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The arrest was made possible through thorough intelligence gathering by the tactical team.
ACM Bisi Kazeem revealed, “A viral video involving another driver is under investigation, while the currently apprehended individual and his Volkswagen have been handed over to the Life Camp Divisional Police Command in FCT for further inquiry and potential prosecution. This follows the completion of the preliminary investigation by the Corps Intelligence Unit.”
As part of their efforts, FRSC tactical teams have been strategically deployed to confiscate vehicles that pose a risk due to instability, unregistered status, or improper registration. The intent is to enforce regulations and bring offenders to justice.
