Google is reportedly exploring widespread layoffs of up to 30,000 employees. The company is looking to integrate AI tools and processes company-wide for efficiency gains, as well as transform ad sales operations and customer service positions.
Although it’s understandable that companies need to adapt and increase investment capacity in emerging areas, it’s unfortunate that these changes will result in job losses.
It’s clear that AI is set to reshape the work landscape, and this is just the start of the major restructuring we’re about to see in the coming years.
Google is an American multinational technology company focusing on artificial intelligence, online advertising, search engine technology among others. It was founded in 1998 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page, that is a subsidiary of the holding company Alphabet Inc.
More than 70 percent of worldwide online search requests are handled by Google, placing it at the heart of most Internet users’ experience.
