Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called for greater collaboration among the three arms of government – the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary – to accelerate the State’s development under his leadership.
The Governor made the appeal during a courtesy visit by members of the Edo State Judiciary, led by Chief Judge Justice Daniel Okungbowa, at the Government House on Friday.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo emphasised the importance of synergy across all arms of government to drive the state’s growth and ensure its continued progress. He acknowledged the Legislature’s support, particularly in passing the Appropriation Bill and other key legislative measures that are critical to the administration’s objectives.
Governor Okpebholo expressed his optimism about working closely with the Judiciary, urging them to partner with the Executive to ensure justice is delivered swiftly and efficiently, thereby fostering the development of the state.
“I am delighted to welcome the Chief Judge and members of the Judiciary. As I mentioned during my inauguration, I am committed to fostering collaboration across the three arms of government. The Executive has already received strong cooperation from the Legislature, especially in the passage of the budget and related requests. Now, I look forward to the Judiciary playing an equally supportive role,” Governor Okpebholo stated.
He stressed that challenges in the state could not be overcome by the Executive alone, urging for a united front to tackle the issues that hinder progress. He also expressed his satisfaction at the visit, which he said had been long anticipated.
The Governor continued, “In my inaugural speech, I highlighted the need for this collaboration, and I’m pleased to see it materialising today. The Judiciary’s role is crucial, and together, we will focus on improving our educational system and the judicial process itself, so both sectors can thrive.
Justice Daniel Okungbowa, the Chief Judge, assured the Governor that the Judiciary was fully committed to working hand in hand with the Executive and Legislature to bring about positive change in Edo State. He emphasised the Judiciary’s commitment to delivering justice for the people of Edo and expressed confidence that collaborative efforts would lead to better governance.
“We are here to build a strong relationship with the Executive. The Judiciary is dedicated to ensuring that justice is served and that we contribute to the overall development of Edo State,” Justice Okungbowa affirmed.
