Gov Okpebholo inaugurates New Governing Council for Edo University, Iyamho

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has officially inaugurated the new governing council for Edo University, Iyamho, urging the members to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and efficiency.

The ceremony took place at the Festival Hall in Government House, Benin City, and was attended by notable dignitaries. During the event, Governor Okpebholo highlighted the importance of the governing council in contributing to the continued growth and development of the state, stressing that the council’s efforts would be crucial in moving the university forward.

“We are gathered here today to mark the beginning of a new chapter for Edo University. My administration has carefully selected individuals with proven integrity and experience to take on this important role. It is my belief that the collective efforts of this council will help steer the institution toward greater success,” the Governor said.

The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, speaking to the members of the Edo State Commission for Persons with Disabilities. He assured them that despite any challenges they may face, his government would ensure equal opportunities for all.

“There is no room for discrimination in this administration. We are all equal partners in the development of Edo State, and I am committed to working with every segment of our society to ensure progress and unity,” Okpebholo declared.

Turning to the newly inaugurated members of the governing council of Edo University, Iyamho, led by Professor Olusegun Akinyinka, the Governor expressed confidence that their leadership would mark the beginning of a new era for the institution.

“Your appointment is a deliberate step to bring in individuals with the expertise and character required to elevate the university. We are confident that under your leadership, Edo University will reach new heights of excellence,” Okpebholo said.

He further outlined the significant responsibilities that lay ahead for the council, urging them to follow the legal framework guiding the operations of the state and to work in unison for the betterment of the university and the state as a whole.

In response, the council leaders expressed their gratitude to the Governor for their appointments. Hon. Ezehi Igbas, Chairman of the Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission, Mr. Theophilus Egbodion, Chairman of the Edo State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, and Professor Olusegun Akinyinka, Chairman of the Edo University Governing Council, all pledged their support to the Governor’s administration.

“We are honoured by this responsibility and are committed to working collaboratively with you to ensure that the goals of this administration are realised,” they stated.
