Benin- A governorship aspirant under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Asuen Ighodalo has officially declared his intention to contest the 2024 governorship election on Wednesday in Benin City.
During his declaration at the State PDP secretariat on Airport road, Ighodalo spoke of his plans to rejuvenate the economic fortunes of Edo State, with the intention of benefiting all the people of the State.
Ighodalo spoke at length about his vision for the state, stating that his administration would focus on developing the infrastructure, increasing investment in key sectors, and creating employment opportunities for the people of Edo State. He further added that he would prioritize education and healthcare, two vital sectors that have been neglected in the State for too long.
If elected, Ighodalo promised to provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, with the aim of attracting more investors to the state. He also pledged to engage with the people of the State in order to better understand their needs and concerns, with the intention of incorporating their feedback into his policies.
“No part of Edo will be left behind. From the high plains of Kukuruku to the lush vegetation of Ilushi; from the rich, red sands of Sakponba to Esanlands’ incredible biodiversity.
“We have all that is needed to make our state a mesmerizing destination for progress and wealth.
“Across each administrative zone, in Edo North, Edo Central and Edo South, we will create practical and focused economic development teams that will harness each area’s unique potential to create wealth for all our people.”
Continuing, he pledged: “My ultimate objective is to lead a government that eliminates deprivation in all its forms and makes Edo the best place to live and work in Nigeria.
“Our economic policies will uplift the poor, support the hard-working men and women of this state, and encourage entrepreneurship and innovation.
“I believe strongly that education is the gateway to opportunity.
“So, we will continue to invest in education as a priority from primary schools to secondary and tertiary institutions throughout the State.
Ighodalo until his formal declaration to contest for the number one seat in Edo State, was the chairman of Sterling Bank Plc and Nigerian Breweries. His vision for the State, according to political pundits, if implemented, has the potential to transform Edo State into a hub of economic activity and social development.
