Dr. Asue Ighodalo, who is contesting as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the upcoming Edo State governorship election on September 21, has denied any involvement in the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor of the state, Mr. Philip Shaibu.
Mr. Shaibu was impeached on April 8, 2024, following an investigative panel’s report, which probed allegations of misconduct against him. Governor Godwin Obaseki and Mr. Shaibu had a long-standing rift over Shaibu’s intention to run for the governorship election, despite opposition from Obaseki.
In a statement issued by his media campaign team, Ighodalo denied any involvement in Shaibu’s removal from office and urged the public to disregard such claims. He stated that he is focused on running a campaign that is based on issues and devoid of distractions.
