The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday conducted a screening exercise for its aspirants in preparation for the upcoming governorship elections in Edo State.
The screening committee, headed by Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, promised to provide a level playing field for all aspirants and ensure transparency and fairness in the selection process. Governor Mutfwang expressed the party’s determination to retain Edo State and urged all the aspirants to support whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearer.
He emphasized that the party would do everything necessary to ensure that the candidate who emerges is capable of delivering good governance to the people of Edo State. The screening exercise, which lasted for several hours, was peaceful and well-organized, according to Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.
In addition to Shaibu, other aspirants screened by the party included Omosede Igbinedion, Anslem Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, and Asue Ighodalo. Former Director-General of the PDP Governors Forum, Osaro Onaiwu, also spoke to journalists after his screening, calling on the party to reward loyal members with the gubernatorial ticket.
He argued that the only way to retain the governorship of Edo State was to select a candidate who had been a faithful and committed member of the party. As the party prepares for the upcoming elections, it is clear that the screening exercise was an important step in the process of selecting a candidate who can deliver good governance and meet the needs of the people of Edo State.
The PDP remains committed to ensuring a transparent and fair process that will produce the best candidate for the job.
