Fresh outrage has greeted the gruesome killing of a health worker, identified as Ojoma Emie, who was allegedly ambushed and beheaded by suspected armed invaders along the Ikobi-Ugbokpo road in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.
The victim was said to have been travelling from Ikobi community to Ugbokpo, the headquarters of Apa LGA, on Monday morning to purchase medicine when the attackers struck.
Residents alleged that the assailants not only killed Emie but also severed and took away his head, leaving his lifeless body at the scene.
The incident has sparked renewed fears among locals, who described the Ikobi-Ugbokpo road as a dangerous flashpoint for repeated attacks.
A resident, identified simply as Enole, lamented the worsening security situation and the growing danger faced by commuters.
“We are deeply worried that this particular route has become a recurring ambush point for suspected herdsmen. Our people can no longer travel freely on roads within their own communities,” she said.
Confirming the incident, Chairman of Apa Local Government Area, Adam Ochega, said the victim was attacked while on his way to Ugbokpo.
“He was on his way from Ikobi to Ugbokpo when the killers ambushed and beheaded him,” Ochega stated.
Also speaking, Vice President of the Ikobi Progressive Forum, Dr. Edoh Ofugocho, revealed that residents became alarmed after hearing multiple gunshots from the area.
“Our people heard gunshots about 10 to 15 times. People immediately became apprehensive because they knew he was on his way to Ugbokpo to buy medicine. Later, it was discovered that he had been attacked and killed at Ugbobi Junction,” he said.
