A young Nigerian lady identified as Jennifer has landed in court after allegedly collecting ₦30,000 from a man for transport fare but failing to honour his invitation.
According to a viral video trending on social media, the complainant, Emmanuel, told the court that he transferred the money to Jennifer with the expectation that she would visit him, only for her to switch off her phone and disappear.
The court, after hearing the matter, reportedly ordered Jennifer to pay ₦450,000 in damages to Emmanuel or face seven years’ imprisonment.
The judgment has sparked heated debate online, with many condemning Jennifer’s action as fraudulent, while others argued that the case exposes a growing trend of “hook-up” scams and raises questions about personal responsibility in such arrangements.
Locals say the ruling could serve as a cautionary tale for both men and women, warning against exploiting trust in relationships built on financial promises.
