A shop operator and her male customer have been reportedly shot dead by a member of the Edo State-owned vigilante outfit.
The accidental discharge occurred on Thursday, at Efehi Street, off College Road, Aduwawa, in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state.
Eyewitness who didn’t want their name mentioned told journalists that the vigilante man met the woman in her shop while attending to a customer. Then he reportedly went home to get his gun, and on his returned to the shop with his gun, the vigilante fired shots in the air but the bullet accidentally met the woman and the male customer, killing both at the spot.
The deceased were identified as Mr Tony Bassi and One Lucia Nwoorie while the vigilante man was identified as Osagie Ufua, and is now with the police at Aduwawa police station in Benin city, Edo state. Bui the motive for killing the two persons is yet to be known, as at the time of filling this report.
The state police public relations officer, PPRO, SP Kontongs Bello, has confirmed the incident, describing it as accidental discharge. And the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue.
Adding that the vigilante member has appeared before the police and investigation has commenced to unravel the real intent and details of what transpired.
