In response to escalating unrest, the Kaduna State Security Council has enforced a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan cities.
The decision, announced on Monday by Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, follows a review of the current security situation under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani.

The imposition of the curfew comes amid growing concerns that a peaceful hunger protest has been co-opted by criminal elements. “There is sufficient evidence to clearly indicate that the ongoing protest has been hijacked by criminal elements who have resorted to looting shops and destroying private and public property,” stated Aruwan.

The Security Council’s resolution to implement the curfew aims to curb further violence and protect the communities in the affected areas. “In view of this unfortunate development, the Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously resolved to impose a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria Metropolises and environs with immediate effect,” Aruwan added.
