In a candid and insightful interview, Honourable Charity Uyimwen Amayanwangho, a dedicated member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), shared his motivations for vying for the position of House of Representatives member to represent Ovia Federal Constituency at the National Assembly. Despite an unsuccessful first attempt, he remains steadfast in his resolve, citing a deep desire to positively impact the lives of his constituents as his driving force.
Hon. Amayanwangho’s journey into politics began in 2013 when he transitioned from a career in banking, where he served as a Regional Manager overseeing operations in two States. Reflecting on his decision, he said, “Having risen to a prominent position in the banking sector, I realised that my capacity to influence and assist people was limited. I needed a larger platform to impact the lives of a greater number of people, particularly in my immediate community.”
He emphasised that his decision was not motivated by financial gain but by a desire to give back to the society that nurtured him. “I was not satisfied by fat salaries or large account balances. My satisfaction comes from the number of lives I can positively impact,” he remarked.
Hon. Amayanwangho’s unwavering focus on the House of Representatives seat is rooted in his belief that every pursuit requires a clear vision and determination. He explained, “I don’t believe in jumping from one election to another. My focus has always been on representing my constituency in the House of Representatives, and I believe that delay is not denial. This is my time.”
A staunch and loyal member of the APC, Hon. Amayanwangho has remained steadfast in his commitment to the party since its inception. Recalling his sacrifices, he stated, “I lost my position as Executive Director at the State Internal Revenue Service due to my refusal to defect to the PDP. My loyalty is to the party, not to individuals.”
His extensive contributions to the APC’s growth and success include serving as a member of the national team for the registration of party members in Imo State and participating in several congresses and primaries. Additionally, he held pivotal roles in campaign councils, notably as Director of Finance for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s 2020 gubernatorial campaign and as a key figure in Dennis Idahosa’s successful campaigns.
Hon. Amayanwangho’s leadership has transformed his voting unit and ward into strongholds for the APC. “Since joining APC, my ward has consistently delivered victories for the party. I have galvanised members to achieve remarkable results,” he said.
If elected, Hon. Amayanwangho aspires to build upon the achievements of his predecessor, Honourable Dennis Idahosa, who left an indelible mark on Ovia Federal Constituency through numerous developmental projects. “The bar has been raised. My challenge is not only to match that record but to surpass it,” he stated.
He underscored the importance of setting a high standard for governance, saying, “A representative’s impact should be evident. I want to ensure that every ward in Ovia Federal Constituency benefits from meaningful projects that improve the quality of life for our people.”
Hon. Amayanwangho also praised the efforts of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, highlighting his commitment to restoring the dignity of traditional institutions and revitalising Ambrose Alli University. “The governor has taken bold steps to correct past wrongs and invest in education and infrastructure. His focus on practical governance rather than rhetoric is commendable,” he said.
He expressed optimism about the State’s future under Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, predicting a surge in infrastructural development in the coming months. “Edo State is on the path to transformation. The good times are here,” he declared.
Hon. Amayanwangho firmly believes that rewarding loyalty and exceptional performance is crucial for sustaining the APC’s success. “A party that values loyalty and hard work inspires its members to strive for excellence. This should be the hallmark of APC,” he stated.
