The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved an extension for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Edo State.
The collection period, initially set to end earlier, has been extended by three additional days, running from Friday, September 13 to Sunday, September 15, 2024.
This decision was announced by INEC’s spokesman, Sam Olumekun, who cited demands made by political parties during a stakeholders’ meeting in Benin City on Wednesday.
The meeting, held at the Victor Uwaifo Event Centre, was attended by governorship candidates and political party leaders.
They had collectively appealed to the electoral body for an extension to give more voters a chance to collect their PVCs ahead of the upcoming election.
“Consequently, a three-day extension has been granted from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th September 2024. The cards will be available for collection in our 18 Local Government offices across the State from 9 am to 5 pm daily,” the statement from INEC read.
The commission has urged all registered voters in Edo State who have not yet collected their PVCs to take advantage of this extended period to ensure they are eligible to vote in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
With the extension, it is expected that more citizens will be able to participate in the democratic process, as political parties gear up for a highly competitive election in Edo history.
