The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fake website falsely claiming that online voter registration is ongoing, insisting that the registration exercise ended in July 2026.
The commission issued the warning in a public notice on Saturday after discovering a fraudulent website advertising a supposed registration window from September 28 to October 27, 2026.
INEC described the information as false and urged Nigerians to disregard the website to avoid falling victim to misinformation and possible online fraud.
The electoral body reiterated that the online voter registration exercise had ended in July, dismissing claims that a new registration window had been opened.
The warning comes as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, with prospective voters expected to rely on official information from the electoral commission regarding voter registration and other electoral procedures.
INEC advised Nigerians to verify election-related announcements through its official communication channels and website rather than relying on unverified links circulating online.
The commission also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid submitting personal information on suspicious websites purporting to offer voter registration services.
