The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the state’s 44 local government areas, citing violations of Islamic teachings and the need to safeguard public morality.
The directive was announced on Thursday by the Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, who said the ban is aimed at promoting Islamic values and protecting the moral fabric of society.
According to him, the decision followed complaints that some operators engaged in the mobile movie download business were distributing pornographic films and other video materials deemed offensive to Islamic principles and the cultural values of Kano State.
“The Hisbah Board has banned downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the 44 local government areas in the state,” Aminuddeen declared.
He revealed that Hisbah operatives have already been deployed across the state to enforce the directive through routine patrols and monitoring operations.
Aminuddeen warned that anyone caught violating the ban would face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State.
He also advised those affected by the directive to seek alternative lawful means of livelihood, stressing that the measure is designed to shield young people from harmful content and preserve societal values.
The Deputy Commander further linked the rising rate of moral decadence among youths to the increasing consumption of indecent films and videos, insisting that the crackdown is necessary to curb the trend and uphold the state’s Islamic and cultural standards.
