Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have stormed creeks and forests in the state in search of the abducted Edo State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tony Aziegbemi.
The State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, made this known in Benin City, while giving an update on efforts being made to rescue the PDP leader.
Aziegbemi was kidnapped last Friday at about 11:00 pm by six armed men in front of his house after a meeting with the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, at the Government House.
“We have intensified our patrol, we were in the creeks yesterday (Sunday), around Ologbo, Obayantor and other parts of the state.
“We are not leaving any stone unturned; we are already on the trail of the people that perpetrated that crime and I can assure you that in no distant time, we are going to rescue him unhurt,” the police commissioner stated.
The commissioner, who also spoke on the security situation in Edo State, noted that “We have observed that some unscrupulous elements have turned this state to a situation where guns are just like catapults. This is not good for the society and we are not going to allow it.
“For example, recently, because of what is happening, there is a rise in some criminal activities both in the Benin City metropolis and some other parts of the state. We have stepped up our actions against hoodlums operating in whatever guise.
“We are going to have a total lockdown on criminal activities in the state. We have started since Friday and we are working in conjunction and collaboration with our sister agencies, the military, the DSS, the Civil Defense Corps and other agencies.
