In a jaw-dropping display of arrogance and lawlessness, a group of Lebanese nationals have been accused of flagrantly violating traffic rules and threatening Nigerians with concealed weapons in Lagos on Sunday, 23rd February 2025.
The shocking incident, which occurred in broad daylight, was witnessed by a Nigerian man, Jewel Fitila, who bravely shared his experience on social media, exposing the brazen behaviour of the foreign nationals.
Fitila, on his way to church near Igando General Hospital in Alimosho, found himself caught in traffic when a car carrying four Lebanese men allegedly swerved into oncoming lanes, blatantly defying traffic laws. Despite the presence of Nigerian Civil Defence officers attempting to control the situation, the men showed utter contempt for authority, laughing in the faces of the officers and continuing their reckless actions without hesitation.
Fitila, unable to watch this injustice unfold, decided to confront the men. He recorded a video of the incident, questioning the foreign nationals, asking: “Could you do this same thing in your country?” His question was met with aggression as one of the men, visibly angered, began to hurl threats at Fitila.
“I had to leave my wife and children in the car,” Fitila explained. “I couldn’t stand by and watch these men mock Nigerian law enforcement like they were untouchable.”
But the situation escalated when the men, having initially shown no regard for the law, further provoked Fitila by approaching his car. One of them, who had been belligerent from the start, physically struck the door of Fitila’s car in an apparent attempt to escalate the altercation.
As tensions flared, Fitila’s wife, fearing for their safety, rushed to intervene. To her shock, she noticed that one of the men was carrying a concealed firearm, seemingly ready to use it if no one was watching.
Fitila expressed his outrage on social media: “Here are foreigners breaking our laws, with no remorse, and treating Nigerians with such disdain and aggression. It’s time we demand answers from the Nigerian police about these men and their rights to treat us this way. We cannot allow this to continue.”
Nigerians have taken to social media, demanding that the authorities take swift action against these foreign nationals and ensure that such brazen lawlessness is not tolerated.
The Nigerian police have yet to comment on the incident, but with the video evidence circulating widely, it is expected that authorities will be under intense pressure to take decisive action.
Is this the new norm? A stark reminder of how some foreigners are seemingly above the law in Nigeria, or will justice prevail? Only time will tell.
