LG Polls: EDSIEC, Egor Council Hold Electoral Sensitisation Programme

The Egor Local Government Council, in collaboration with the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), has organised a stakeholders’ sensitisation programme aimed at promoting a peaceful, credible, free and fair atmosphere ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections in Edo State.

The interactive engagement, held during the week at the Council Hall of the Local Government, brought together critical stakeholders across the area, including representatives of political parties, security agencies, pressure and union groups, media practitioners, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, community leaders and other relevant interest groups.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Osaro Osa Eribo, commended EDSIEC for engaging stakeholders at the grassroots level and stressed the importance of collaboration, peaceful coexistence and active civic participation in ensuring successful local government elections.

Hon. Eribo further urged political actors and residents of Egor to conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after the elections, emphasizing that peace and unity remain essential for sustainable development in the Local Government Area.

Officials of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission also engaged participants extensively on modalities for the conduct of the elections, electoral guidelines, voter participation, security arrangements and the need for all stakeholders to uphold democratic principles throughout the electoral process.

Speaking on voter education, the Commissioner of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr. Suleman Ikhuoariah, assured participants that the forthcoming Local Government Election would be transparent. He encouraged stakeholders to create awareness and mobilise friends, families and community members to exercise their civic rights, stressing that “every vote will count.”

The sensitisation programme also featured an interactive session that provided participants the opportunity to review previous electoral exercises, identify challenges experienced in past elections and collectively propose practical solutions and mitigation strategies aimed at strengthening the credibility and transparency of the forthcoming polls.

The programme ended with a collective resolve by stakeholders to support efforts geared towards delivering a peaceful, transparent and credible electoral process across Egor Local Government Area.
