The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results for the 2024 November/December National Business Certificate (NBC), National Technical Certificate (NTC), Advanced National Business Certificate (ANBC), and Advanced National Technical Certificate (ANTC) examinations, with a total of 29,880 candidates – representing 67.56 percent – achieving five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics.
In total, 42,431 candidates (95.94 percent) attained five credits or more, whether or not they passed English and Mathematics. The examinations were taken by 44,730 candidates across 1,825 centres nationwide.
Dr. Nnasia Ndarake Asanga, Acting Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, highlighted the positive outcomes of this year’s exams, despite a slight dip in the percentage of candidates who passed both English and Mathematics compared to 2023. Nevertheless, the overall pass rate for candidates achieving five credits or more, with or without the core subjects, was higher than last year.
Dr. Asanga also addressed efforts to tackle examination malpractice, noting a marked decrease in incidents. Of the total candidates, 256 (0.53 percent) were found to be involved in examination malpractice, compared to 246 (0.57 percent) in 2023. He attributed this improvement to the board’s rigorous anti-fraud measures, which, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, have helped foster a culture of academic integrity and reduced malpractice.
“We remain committed to upholding the integrity and credibility of our education system,” Dr. Asanga remarked, emphasising the importance of combating examination fraud to enhance the quality of education.
However, NABTEB faces on-going challenges, including funding shortages, the stigma surrounding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and the need for improved curricula and resources. Dr. Asanga suggested that addressing these issues through increased funding, curriculum updates, and capacity-building for educators could strengthen the board’s ability to serve the educational needs of Nigerians.
Despite these hurdles, NABTEB remains dedicated to its mission of providing high-quality certification for technical and vocational education, contributing to the development of a skilled workforce in the country.
