Auchi Polytechnic Celebrates 61st Anniversary with Prestigious Fellowship Awards to 5 Eminent Edo Leaders

Auchi Polytechnic, one of Nigeria’s premier institutions, marked its 61st anniversary and combined 26th and 27th convocation ceremonies in grand style on November 16, 2024.

The event, held on the Institution’s campus in Auchi, featured the conferment of honourary fellowship awards on four illustrious sons of Edo State: Chief (Dr.) Abu Inu-Umoru, Chairman of Setraco Nigeria Limited; Apostle Johnson Suleiman, founder of Omega Fire Ministries; Chief Dan Osi Orbih, National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the Peoples Democratic Party; and Engr. Prof. Samson Duna.

In his address, Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. S.S. Umar, highlighted the honourees’ exemplary contributions to their respective fields and society at large.
“These individuals have demonstrated that true leadership is rooted in dedication, compassion, and selfless service. Their achievements are a source of inspiration, not only to our institution but also to the broader society,” he said.

The event attracted notable dignitaries, including former Edo State Governor Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Regional Minister for Development Engr. Abubakar Momoh, and the Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu O. Alausa.
The convocation also celebrated the achievements of graduating students and unveiled a series of infrastructural advancements aimed at enhancing the educational experience at the polytechnic.

The fellowship awards are part of Auchi Polytechnic’s tradition of recognising exceptional individuals who have significantly impacted their fields.
Chief (Dr.) Abu Inu-Umoru was celebrated for his contributions to the construction industry, Apostle Suleiman for his spiritual leadership and philanthropy, Chief Orbih for his political leadership, and Engr. Prof. Duna for his advancements in engineering and academia and Dr Olusegun Olugboyegun, Chairman, Jof Nigeria Limited.
Dr. Umar also used the occasion to unveil new projects, including state-of-the-art lecture theatres, advanced workshops, and a microfinance bank.
“These projects symbolize our commitment to creating a progressive and conducive environment for education,” Umar noted.
The event was a celebration of not just the honourees and graduates but also the institution’s on-going pursuit of excellence. Graduates were encouraged to carry forward the values and skills acquired during their time at the polytechnic, while the institution reaffirmed its dedication to producing industry-ready professionals.
