In a renewed push to curb kidnapping and rising insecurity, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, will on February 6, 2026, commission a newly completed police barracks in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government of Edo State, a move authorities say will significantly strengthen policing and officer welfare in the area.

The commissioning forms part of broader efforts by the Edo State Police Command to improve operational effectiveness by providing better living and working conditions for personnel deployed to security-challenged communities.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jattu Police Division, CSP Otoagua Joseph, described the project as a historic milestone for the division, noting that adequate accommodation for officers is central to effective law enforcement and sustainable community safety.

According to him, improved welfare directly impacts morale, discipline and response capacity, particularly in areas grappling with security threats.

“Police welfare and effective policing remain my topmost priorities,” CSP Joseph said, adding that the new barracks would enhance officers’ commitment, boost operational efficiency and ensure a stronger and more consistent security presence in Jattu and neighbouring communities.

He explained that the facility is expected to reduce response times, improve coordination among officers and deepen trust between the police and residents, as personnel will now be better positioned to carry out their duties.

CSP Joseph also called on community leaders, residents and other stakeholders to attend the commissioning ceremony and to continue supporting the police in their collective effort to maintain peace, law and order across the area.
