Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs and head of the Regional Development Commission, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, has donated a fully-equipped ambulance to the Edo University Teaching Hospital, Iyamho in a move that has been widely praised by the institution’s management and staff.
Speaking during a brief handover ceremony, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Edo University, Professor Dawood O. Egbefo, expressed profound appreciation to the Minister, describing the gesture as a significant boost to the university’s healthcare infrastructure.
“The ambulance will enhance the hospital’s emergency response capabilities and overall medical interventions,” Prof. Egbefo stated. “It will enable quicker transportation of patients in critical condition and improve our capacity to provide timely care.”
The donation, which aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative, underscores the federal government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across the nation.
In an official statement signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Amaechi Kelly Quincy, the institution acknowledged the impact of the donation.
“The Board, Management, and staff of Edo University Teaching Hospital have expressed sincere gratitude to Engr. Abubakar Momoh, Minister of the Regional Development Commission, for his generous donation of an ambulance,” the statement read.
“This contribution will significantly enhance the hospital’s emergency care capabilities. The state-of-the-art ambulance will strengthen our ability to respond swiftly to medical emergencies, potentially saving countless lives.”
Dr. Moses Imologomhe, the Acting Chief Medical Director of the teaching hospital, also commended the donation, describing it as a timely intervention that would make a tangible difference in emergency healthcare delivery in Edo State.
“This vehicle will directly benefit many by ensuring timely medical assistance during emergencies,” Dr. Imologomhe noted. “We are proud to partner with Engr. Momoh in our shared mission to improve healthcare services.”
The donation is part of broader efforts by the Niger Delta Ministry and the Regional Development Commission to invest in critical infrastructure and social welfare in the region. The hospital’s leadership reiterated their dedication to improving medical facilities and services for the people of Edo State and beyond.
The newly acquired ambulance is expected to be deployed immediately into the hospital’s emergency fleet, bringing much-needed support to its round-the-clock medical services.
