Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Special Intervention Battalion 7, Sector-II, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have dislodged terrorists from their enclaves in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, recovering a machine gun, high-calibre weapons, ammunition and motorcycles.
The successful operation is part of the ongoing offensive campaign to dismantle terrorist hideouts, deny criminal elements freedom of action and restore security across the North-West.
According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector-II, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, troops advanced through identified terrorist threat enclaves, including Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya Forest axis.
At the Magarya Forest enclave, the troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
The Army said troops subsequently intensified follow-up operations and conducted a thorough search of the general area, leading to the recovery of significant arms, ammunition and mobility assets.
Items recovered include one PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, motorcycles and assorted logistical and miscellaneous items.
The Army said troops have maintained a strong operational presence in the area to secure surrounding communities and prevent the terrorists from regrouping.
