Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has stepped down with immediate effect. In a letter dated 1 December 2025 to President Bola Tinubu, Abubakar cited health reasons for his resignation. President Tinubu accepted the resignation, thanked Abubakar for his service, and indicated that the Senate will be informed of a successor later this week .
The resignation comes as President Tinubu has declared a national security emergency and plans to outline its scope soon
