Maiduguri witnessed a historic gathering of women political leaders and stakeholders as the APC National Women Leader convened a major North-East Sensitisation Programme to accelerate support for the Special Seats for Women Bill currently before the National Assembly.
Held in the Borno State capital, the event, themed “North-East Women Rising: Advocating for Our Constitutional Space in Leadership,” brought together APC women leaders, political stakeholders and party stalwarts from all six states of the North-East in a unified push for constitutional reforms that would strengthen women’s participation in governance.
The high-profile programme focused on expanding women’s representation in both elective and appointive positions, while advancing the case for constitutional inclusion to guarantee women a structured pathway into leadership.
Participants were also educated on their political rights and mobilised with practical knowledge and tools to enable them engage more effectively in the political process, from grassroots organisation to national-level advocacy.
Speakers at the forum emphasised that the passage of the Special Seats for Women Bill would mark a turning point in Nigeria’s democratic development by giving women a stronger voice in lawmaking and governance.
The gathering ended with a strong consensus among delegates to intensify grassroots campaigns, strengthen political networks and sustain pressure on lawmakers to fast-track the bill, as the region’s women pledged to remain at the forefront of the struggle for inclusive leadership in Nigeria.
