In a match day 9 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Saturday, Bendel Insurance FC played a 2-2 draw with visiting Kwara United FC of Ilorin at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium. The match saw Sadeeq Yusuf of Kwara United scoring the opener in the 15th minute of the game by beating the Insurance’s defence.
Bendel Insurance had been maintaining clean sheets at the stadium since the beginning of the season with Amas Obasogie in goal. However, with the Obasogie now with the Super Eagles, the Benin Arsenal conceded two goals in the hand of the visitors, with Sadeeq Yusuf opening the scoring in the 14th minute and becoming the first player to register a goal against Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ognemudia stadium.
Kwara United’s Godwin Oshagbemi restored the lead for his team before the break, while Ismail Seriki equalised for the hosts in added time.
In a post-match interview, Kwara United coach, Kabiru Dogo blamed loss of concentration for the late goal conceded by his team, but he assured that his team would consolidate on the draw ahead of their next game in the league. Coach Monday Odigie of Bendel Insurance FC said that the home draw was not the result he wanted but was happy that his boys fought back well to avoid defeat at home.
After the match, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe presented a plaque with #50000 cash prize to the Most Valuable Player of Bendel Insurance FC, Stephen Sodje.
