Enugu Rangers have emerged champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League after edging Ikorodu City 2-1 in a tense final-day clash to seal a record-equalling ninth league crown.
The Flying Antelopes matched the long-standing record of regional rivals Enyimba with a hard-fought victory away from home, capping off an impressive campaign in dramatic fashion.
Captain Chidiebere Nwobodo proved the hero for Rangers, scoring in both halves to hand the Enugu side the crucial win needed to stay ahead of title challengers Rivers United.
Ikorodu City pulled one back in the 58th minute through substitute Moses Ali after goalkeeper Lucky Jimoh spilled a long-range effort, setting up a nervy finish for the visitors.
Rangers eventually held firm to finish top of the table with 68 points from 38 matches — just one point ahead of Rivers United, who defeated Katsina United 3-0 in their own final fixture.
The triumph marks coach Fidelis Ilechukwu’s second league title with Rangers and further cements his growing reputation as one of the country’s top tacticians.
Following their title success, Rangers will now represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League alongside runners-up Rivers United.
