Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, describing the outcome as a triumph of the people’s will over anti-democratic forces.
Obaseki, in a congratulatory message, said Adeleke’s re-election was significant because it reflected the decision of Osun voters to entrust him with another four-year mandate to lead the state.
He said the victory also demonstrated the “futility of anti-democratic forces” allegedly deployed by desperate politicians to subvert the will of the electorate.
According to the former governor, Adeleke’s victory sends a powerful message that Nigerians can defend their democratic choices when they stand together with courage, determination and a common purpose.
“From my own political experience, a hard-fought election ultimately decided by the wishes and resolve of the people is a powerful reminder to the holder of a public mandate that his loyalty must, at all times, remain with the people and not with the interests of the privileged few who benefit from access to power,” Obaseki said.
He urged Adeleke to remain committed to the people of Osun State, stressing that the mandate should translate into greater development and improved welfare for residents.
Obaseki expressed confidence that the governor would use his second term to deepen development across the state and advance the aspirations of its people.
He therefore wished Adeleke a successful second term, describing his victory as “well-deserved.”
Obaseki, who is currently a Researcher/Scholar at the School of African Studies, Boston University, United States, urged political leaders to see electoral victories as a renewed responsibility to serve the people rather than an opportunity to advance the interests of a privileged few.
