Obaseki empowered Edo youths with 50 Fish Ponds

Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has approved 50 fish ponds as empowerment for farmers in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon Frank Ilaboya made this known, Thursday.

According to him: “I am excited to announce to all that God has continued His blessing of Owan West this year. Just got the biggest news of the new year that the fish pond empowerment project we applied for last year has been approved to take off by His Excellency, Mr Godwin Obaseki.

“The people of Owan West have every reason to celebrate once again because this is one project that will definitely enhance and add so much value to our various empowerment programmes in the local government.

“I want to sincerely thank and appreciate Mr Governor for this kind gesture once again. I also want to assure the Governor that this project will be a pride to him as we promise to make it a model for others to emulate,” Hon Ilaboya added.

To facilitate its take off,
Hon. Frank Ilaboya held a strategic meeting with the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Agriculture & Natural Resources, Mr. Godwin Okonofua and his team,

Others in attendance wete Mr. Peter Aikhuomobhogne, Project Manager, Agricultural Development Programme (ADP); Mr. Friday Ehimare, Director of Fishery in the Ministry;
the Consultant to the Project, Mr. Otobrise Ogbevire; the Aggregator, Inegbedion Ose and Director of Agriculture & Natural Resources in Owan West, Mr. Sunday Unuigbokhai.

The meeting, which was held in Benin on Wednesday, articulated action plans for a smooth and successful take off.
“Yes, the meeting went very fine,” Hon Ilaboya picks up the story again. “We deliberated on issues that will enhance the smooth take off of the project. All the relevant stakeholders as you can see from the above names were present and from the issues discussed, I can assure you of smooth take off of the project.

“Fish farming is one of the most lucrative ventures and this is why I am particularly excited our people will be benefitting from this. My appeal to the beneficiaries is for them to take this project seriously. There is so much prospect and future is fish production business.

“I am very confident that this will open more doors of opportunities for the local government if we make a success of it.
“At this point, all I have to say is big congratulations to the beneficiaries as we look forward to an enduring and lucrative business in fishing.”
