Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have publicly backed Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State in his escalating dispute with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This show of support follows a contentious party congress in Rivers State, where Fubara was reportedly sidelined.

The PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) convened in Jalingo, Taraba State, on Friday, August 23, where they expressed their solidarity with Fubara.

The governors called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to revisit the congress and ensure that Fubara is given his due position within the party’s leadership in Rivers State.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the governors criticized the use of court rulings to influence the outcomes of party congresses, specifically highlighting the situation in Rivers State.

“The PDP Governors’ Forum restates its stand with the Governor of Rivers State and will engage the NWC of our great party to revisit the congress with a view to correcting the anomaly and allowing His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara to take his rightful leadership position of the party in the state,” the communiqué read.

The governors also addressed broader concerns, condemning recent statements by President Bola Tinubu, which they perceived as attempts to influence the upcoming governorship election in Edo State in favor of his party.

They accused the Federal Government of using the Nigeria Police to intimidate PDP supporters and called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure fairness.

Furthermore, the PDP leaders lambasted the Federal Government for not properly distinguishing between federal revenue and revenue belonging to the federation, which should be allocated according to the law.

They urged President Tinubu to avoid actions that might undermine State governments and pledged to continue standing with the Nigerian people in their efforts to improve the country’s socio-economic conditions.
