Fubara Fires Back at Wike: ‘I Won’t Donate My Kidney or Liver Out of Loyalty’

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has firmly stated that he will not sacrifice his liver or kidney in the name of loyalty, sparking a new chapter in his on-going public dispute with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The governor made the remark during an Inter-denominational Church Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, organized as part of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebrations.

Speaking at St. Paul’s Cathedral of the Anglican Communion in Port Harcourt, Fubara indirectly responded to comments made by Wike the previous day.
Wike had claimed he was responsible for Fubara’s rise to governorship but accused him of abandoning his supporters after winning the election.

“I belong to that school of thought that if I am the only person standing on the side of right, I will stand there. I don’t need anybody to stand with me. I cannot give my kidney or liver to anybody, I won’t. If that is the only reason for me to be loyal, I will not be. But, I will not do the wrong thing. I will stand for the side of right,” Fubara declared.

Denies Sabotage Allegation
The governor also addressed Wike’s accusation that he was behind an attempt to sabotage a civic reception in honor of Wike organized by the Rivers Ijaw People’s Council (RIVCO).
The event, held on Saturday at Rainbow Town in Port Harcourt, was allegedly targeted for disruption by bomb threats.

Fubara vehemently denied any involvement, asserting that he had never instructed security agencies to engage in unlawful activities.

“I make bold to say it, there is no security agency in this State that I have called any day to go and do something wrong. I have never. I don’t have a need for it. But I know what they do, and they keep failing because God has left them,” the governor stated.

Progress Amid Criticism
In the face of criticism that his administration had not delivered for the State, Fubara used the occasion to highlight his government’s accomplishments.

He pointed out that several key projects, including the N200 billion Port Harcourt Ring Road and the N225 billion Trans-Kalabari Road, were underway without borrowing. He also emphasized his commitment to healthcare, referencing the construction of a General Hospital and a Psychiatric Hospital in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Mocking Wike’s administration, Fubara claimed his achievements in one year outpaced Wike’s eight years as governor.

They say they don’t know what we are doing. Let me remind them, it is Fubara that signed the paper to borrow from Zenith Bank the N200 billion for the construction of the Port Harcourt Ring Road. So, it is my project,” he added.

Fubara further jabbed at Wike, saying the psychiatric wing of the General Hospital would soon be necessary for those criticizing his administration.

Rebuffs Wike’s Noise
In a pointed comment likely aimed at Wike, Fubara remarked that those who make the most noise often lack relevance.

“Anybody that is making noise for recognition, it is a sign that he has lost it. By the special grace of God, I don’t need introduction. I have the name, and I am the one standing here,” Fubara said.

Maintains Loyalty to PDP
Despite the internal tensions, Fubara reiterated his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and called for peaceful elections, urging political leaders to prioritize the welfare of the people of Rivers State.

“For those of you that are going to participate in the election, please, I want the election to be peaceful, very important. When you emerge, our major concern is the people. Care for the people,” he concluded.
