In a tragic turn of events, suspected kidnappers believed to be herders have brutally murdered a civil servant and farmer named Inofomoh Gabriel in Edo State.
The horrific incident took place in the serene Jattu community, situated in the heart of the Uzairue clan, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
Gabriel, who also served as a dedicated staff member of Auchi Polytechnic, ventured out to his farm on Wednesday, 27th March only to never return home. Concerned by his absence, the community banded together to form search teams to scour the surrounding bushlands in a desperate attempt to locate the missing farmer.
After two agonizing days of fruitless searching, the community’s worst fears were realized when a chilling discovery was made. Gabriel’s lifeless body, bearing several brutal machete wounds, was found concealed in the dense bushes. The community is reeling from the shock and anguish of the loss, suspecting that herdsmen, notorious for kidnapping farmers in the area, were behind this atrocious act of violence.
Local authorities were swiftly notified of the heinous crime, with the Jattu police division taking immediate action. A police source at the station verified the incident, although they were unable to provide further details as they were not authorized to speak on the matter.
When newsmen approached for an official statement, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo State police command, assured that he would reach out to the divisional police officer at the Jattu division for more information on the tragic demise of Gabriel, the hardworking Auchi Polytechnic staff member who met his untimely end on his own farm.
The community now mourns the loss of a valuable member, while grappling with the unsettling reality of the danger that looms over their agricultural landscape at the hands of suspected herdsmen.
