Former Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Francis Okiye, expressed optimism that the incoming administration of Governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo will significantly improve the lives of Edo State residents, especially those facing economic hardship.
Speaking at a pre-inaugural dinner in Benin City on Monday, Okiye described Okpebholo as a compassionate leader with a focus on welfare and public service, in contrast to the outgoing government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Okiye emphasized the governor-elect’s commitment to addressing pressing issues such as education, security, and the high cost of living, all of which have impacted citizens. He assured that Okpebholo’s administration would make education a top priority, helping to uplift the community by ensuring better access to quality education.
On security, Okiye criticised the previous administration for allowing criminality to increase, hinting at political compromises that he believes enabled insecurity. He expressed confidence that Okpebholo’s administration would tackle these issues with sincerity, ensuring a safer environment for all.
Additionally, Okiye mentioned that the new government would focus on reducing food prices, aiming to alleviate the burden on the most vulnerable populations.
The governor-elect plans to address infrastructural decay and stimulate economic growth to enhance the standard of living for Edo residents.
Okiye assured Edolites that Okpebholo’s administration is prepared to work toward a more equitable, supportive, and economically stable Edo State, prioritising the welfare of the people and aiming to create lasting improvements in their daily lives.
