As Ondo State residents await the results of the 2024 gubernatorial election, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Dr. Adeyemi Olayemi, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the media for their role in fostering voter confidence and increasing youth participation.
Speaking to journalists shortly after casting his vote, Dr. Olayemi, who also serves as the Special Adviser on Environment to the State governor, lauded the high voter turnout, attributing it to effective voter education by INEC and the media. “The enlightenment campaigns have rekindled trust in the electoral process, motivating citizens, especially the youths, to actively participate without fear or apathy,” he noted.
Dr. Olayemi expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, describing it as peaceful and transparent. “So far, the process has been very smooth, free, and fair. There has been no evidence of voter inducement, and people are willingly making their choices,” he stated.
He attributed the significant support for APC’s candidate, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to the incumbent administration’s achievements. “The developmental strides of this administration have inspired confidence among the people. This election is a testament to the work done so far, and we are optimistic about securing another term to continue building on these gains.”
Highlighting the remarkable turnout of young voters, Dr. Olayemi pointed to the crucial roles played by INEC and media campaigns in educating and encouraging youth participation. He also stressed the historical support for progressive leadership in Owo Local Government, his constituency.
“Owo has always been a politically conscious and progressive community. The turnout of youths reflects their understanding of the power of their votes and their trust in a credible candidate. Our local government is committed to ensuring a resounding victory for APC,” he remarked.
When asked about his expectations, Dr. Olayemi expressed confidence in the electorate’s choice. “The people of Ondo State have spoken through their votes, and I believe the results will reflect their trust in our party. We anticipate peaceful acceptance of the results, and we are ready to continue delivering good governance for the betterment of Ondo State.”
Addressing concerns about representation for Owo Local Government, he reassured constituents of the governor’s commitment to inclusivity. “This administration has prioritised Owo, with key cabinet positions allocated to our local government. We are confident that this level of representation will continue in the next term,” he added.
As Ondo State awaits the final announcement of results, the APC chieftain called for calm and urged residents to celebrate peacefully, emphasising the importance of unity and progress in the State.
